The Cane Corso German Shepherd mix dog is a cross between two powerful breeds, the German shepherd and the Cane Corso. While these both are large dogs that have similar characteristics to one another they do come from different backgrounds.

Cane Corso History

The Cane Corso dog breed is a large Italian mastiff that originated in Italy. The name of this ancestry comes from the Latin word “Canis” meaning dog and the term “Corso” refers to the central Apennine area where it was first bred as a war dog that helped defend homes, livestock, and families against thieves and wild animals.

It is believed that the Cane Corso was used by Roman Legions to hold and detain prisoners of war until the Roman soldiers returned from battle. However, it also has been speculated that this breed helped hunt down runaway slaves during ancient times which would explain why they are so good at tracking people today. The history of Cane Corso dogs dates back to ancient Rome and to this day, they still share many of the same qualities.

Both the German Shepherd and Cane Corso are large weighing up to 70-100 pounds and standing as tall as 24-28 inches at the shoulder while GSD’s 22 to 26 inches. When it comes to coat and color you can expect the German Sheperd Cane Corso mix dog to be black and red or black and tan depending on the colors of both of the parents. Does the German Corso Make an excellent family pet?

The German Corso is a great family dog. They are extremely loyal to their families and have an excellent temperament around children. Training them at a young age will allow you to enjoy this for many years as they can live up to 15 years with the right care!

Grooming

You can’t predict the appearance of the puppies from a German Shepherd Cane Corso crossing because they may have the medium or long-haired double coat of a GSD or the short rough fur of a Cane Corso. So the grooming requirement depends on the Coat length and thickness, but here’s another thing to be expected undercoat of varying thickness mostly both parents have one.

If your dog has a short coat that is very easy to groom. The normal routine for this breed of dog is weekly brushing with a bristle brush or hound glove followed by the use of an undercoat rake. There are a few situations when you should immediately bathe your dog. If the coat smells, or if it’s dirty and needs a good cleaning then a bath is in order.

Bathing a short-haired dog should be done every six months while bathing a longhaired breed should only happen every few months. You must trim their nails and clean their ears if your dog has floppy you need to keep them clean to avoid infection developing inside.

The German Shepherd’s coat is typically short with a dense undercoat which requires regular brushing throughout the year at minimum. Sporadic grooming outside of this schedule would be required if your pet was allowed to roam outside, or if it was constantly getting into areas with burrs and other debris.

Is A Cane Corso German Shepherd Mix Easy To Train

German Shepherd Corso is a very intelligent and easy-to-train breed. And as such they need a lot of active stimulation so when bored or left alone without any stimulation, German Shepherds Cane Corso mix are known to become destructive.

like all other dog breeds they do need to be trained properly from a young age. Because of their parents these dogs are one of the most intelligent breeds they learn new commands and tricks very quickly, as long as they are taught with a positive approach using lots of treats and praise rather than punishment.
